The well-maintained roads and pads are gravel. Big rig friendly. No cable or WIFI. The city of Raton is nearby for supplies and restaurants. Find & reserve the best campsites near Raton, New Mexico. We planned on staying in the area on our way back towards home and took a chance on this spot, even though reviews were few and very old. We called ahead and gave our cc as a deposit, but the woman said to call and cancel if we changed our mind. That should have been a clue. We arrived in Raton and saw SummerLand down in a little valley. We drove our motorhome and toad through and quickly decided we were going to cancel. Mostly full-timers and older RV's. The spaces were very tight and the place was pretty much run-down. I hate to write bad reviews, but since there hasn't been on on SummerLand in ages...I felt compelled to write a review to save other's the trouble. I suppose if there are absolutely no other choices, this would be an okay spot to overnight. Definitely not up to par with the places we generally stay.
We had no trouble cancelling without a charge. The woman picked up the phone and said, 'let me guess, you're going to cancel'. Guess that happens too often.
